The Department of Speech and Hearing Science Speech-Language Pathology Clinic offers a variety of summer camps for children with communication impairments.
All camps will be held at the state-of-the-art facility conveniently-located in: Research Park, 2001 South Oak Street, Suite B, Champaign, IL 61820.

For children ages 18–35 months of age and their caregiver(s). Activities will be based on enhancing children’s language, speech and social communication abilities, and addressing caregiver questions including ways to improve communication in the home. 4–6 toddler/caregiver pairs per group.
For children 3–5 years old (who have not yet completed kindergarten) with a diagnosed need in speech, language, and/or stuttering. Activities will be chosen to target each child’s individual needs and enhance speech, language, and social skill development. Preschool Communication Groups will also help children with taking turns, initiating communication, and interacting with peers. Children will be grouped by age, abilities, and communication goals with a maximum of 4–6 children per group. Once registration is received, a free, initial consultation will be scheduled to meet your child, prior to the first week of camp.
For children ages 6-11 years old with a diagnosed need in speech and/or language skills. Activities will be chosen to target each child’s individual needs and to enhance speech and language skills through group interaction. This group is appropriate for children entering first through sixth grades. Children will be grouped by age, abilities, and communication goals, with a maximum of 6 children per group.
For children ages 6–12 years old who stutter. Activities will be chosen to target each individual's needs and enhance fluency. Participants are scheduled by age in groups of 4–6.
For children ages 6–12 years old who need support with literacy skills. This program is appropriate for children who struggle with reading, writing and spelling. Children will receive instruction to develop language, reading and writing abilities. Activities will be designed to improve specific skills, provide positive literacy experiences, and increase the participants’ identities as readers and writers. Children will be grouped by age and skill level. This group is appropriate for children entering first through seventh grade. Maximum of 6 children per group.
For children and teens ages 5–12 years old who have a communication impairment that affects social/peer interaction. Activities will be organized to target social skills through themes including emotions, peer/adult communication and interactions. Each child will be grouped by age, and communication needs with a maximum of 4–6 children per group. Groups are designed for children with verbal skills.
