Concentration Courses
One area of concentration must be declared prior to the senior year.

Concentration for Speech-Language Pathology: 16 hours
NOTE: Students must take SHS 199A & 451 plus a minimum of 11 hours of SHS electives from approved list.
- SHS 199—Undergraduate Open Seminar
- LEC A—Pre-practicum in Speech Pathology (for seniors only)—2 hours
Offered Fall and Spring.
- SHS 451—Aural Rehabilitation of Children to Adults—3 hours for undergraduates—Offered Fall only. Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.
PLUS
choose a minimum of 11 hours of SHS electives
- eight hours from the approved list
AND
at least one three hour class in disordered communication from the recommended courses listed courses below:
- SHS 410—Introduction to Stuttering—3 hours for undergraduates
Offered Spring only through Spring 2007; Fall only beginning Fall 2007
Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.
- SHS 411—Introduction to Voice Disorders—3 hours for undergraduates
Fall only.
- SHS 430—Development and Disorders, Phonology and Articulation—3 hours if taken for undergraduate credit. For seniors and graduate students in SHS only.
- SHS 431—Language Disorders, Preschool Child—3 hours if taken for undergraduate credit. For seniors and graduate students in SHS only.
- SHS 473—Augmentative and Alternative Communication—3 hours (if taken for undergraduate credit)

Concentration for Audiology: 17 hours
NOTE: Students must take SHS 199, SHS 451 & SHS 121 plus a
minimum of 9 hours of SHS electives from approved list.

- SHS 121—American Sign Language (formerly SHS 199Q) —4 hours

*NOTE: 25 hours of clinical observation are required for those pursuing graduate
studies in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology and should be completed and recorded prior to
graduation (any hours not completed prior to the pre-practicum may be done while serving as a senior
clinical participant).
Concentration for Human Communication Science : 24 hours
The Human Communication Science concentration offers broad-based communications degree that allows students
to pair an interest in communication disorders with other areas. Students interested in the Human Communication
Science concentration should work closely with the SHS undergraduate academic advisor to develop and file a
plan prior to their senior year which identifies specific courses proposed for their correlate area of
