Core Courses for Occupations Other Than Health
All students in the Department of Speech and Hearing Science must complete a series of SHS core classes
regardless of their area of concentration. Students are advised to work with the SHS academic advisor to ensure
courses are taken in proper sequential order. The following core classes are required for those pursuing a
concentration in tracks other than those identified for Health Occupations:

- SHS 200—General Phonetics—3 hours

- SHS 240—Intro to Sound and Hearing Science—3 hours

- SHS 300—Anatomy & Physiology of the Speech Mechanism—4 hours

- SHS 301—General Speech Science—4 hours
Offered Spring only.
NOTE: SHS 301 should be taken after SHS 300
- SHS 320—Development of Spoken Language—3 hours

- SHS 450—Introduction to Audiology and Hearing Disorders—4 hours
