One area of concentration must be declared prior to the senior year. Students are advised to consult Undergraduate Advising and their academic advisor on a regular basis to insure they are meeting all requirements.
Speech-language pathologists diagnose and treat individuals of all ages with speech, language, and swallowing disorders. A masters degree and clinical certification are required by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association to become certified as a speech-language pathologist.
Audiologists work to prevent, diagnosis, and treat hearing disorders in hearing-impaired people of all ages. The Doctor of Audiology (AuD) is the minimum standard for those pursuing a career in audiology.
This area of concentration offers students a broad-based communications degree that allows them to pair an interest in communication disorders with other areas outside the department. Students interested in pursuing this option are advised to work in close consultation with the SHS undergraduate academic advisor.
