- Area of Professional Interest
- Teaching interests include child language development, childhood communication disabilities, and behavioral genetics. Populations of particular interest include developmental apraxia of speech, autism spectrum disorders, and late-talking toddlers.
- Research Interests
- Dr. DeThorne's research focuses on why some children find learning to communicate so much more difficult than other children. In addition, she studies how factors that contribute to differences in speech-language development overlap with causal factors responsible for differences in learning to read.
